The Alliance exists to turn shared CHERI knowledge into interoperable technology, practical adoption routes, and a sustainable global ecosystem.
The Alliance’s mission is to accelerate broad, effective adoption of CHERI so that digital products and systems can benefit from stronger memory protection and compartmentalisation.
How the mission becomes work
Align
The Alliance brings implementers and users together around compatible architecture profiles, programming models, interfaces, tools, and evidence. CHERI can extend more than one instruction-set architecture, so ecosystem alignment should preserve useful portability while respecting platform differences.
Enable
The Alliance works to reduce practical barriers to adoption. This includes software ports, development tools, examples, test infrastructure, training, system-integration guidance, and routes for evaluating products.
Assure
The Alliance helps organisations make precise, reviewable claims about CHERI implementations. The CHERI Enabled programme provides one scoped certification route, while working groups develop material relevant to wider safety, security, and procurement needs.
Explain
The Alliance gives developers, buyers, policymakers, and the public clear information about what capability protection does, what it does not do, and how it complements memory-safe languages and other controls.
Connect
The Alliance provides a neutral forum where industry, academia, open-source communities, government, and users can share requirements and coordinate work that no single organisation needs to repeat alone.
Principles
Alliance activity should be technically grounded, architecture-aware, transparent about limitations, and useful to more than one product or member. Collaboration must follow the Alliance’s governance, competition-law, intellectual-property, conduct, and trademark policies.
What remains with adopters
The Alliance can provide coordination, resources, and evidence frameworks. Each organisation remains responsible for choosing an appropriate platform, engineering its product, meeting legal and sector obligations, maintaining security, and substantiating its own claims.
