The idea for the CHERI Alliance started from a simple observation.
Over the years, I have seen that great technology is not enough. Success requires an ecosystem of companies, developers and adopters, brought together by an organisation that encourages collaboration, standardisation and interoperability.
I believed CHERI needed the same.
CHERI is a fantastic technology, built on strong foundations: more than 200 person-years of research, and many more invested by industry. Its potential is enormous: removing most vulnerabilities and protecting everything from the smallest IoT sensor to large data centres.
Computing is everywhere. CHERI should be everywhere.
Realising that potential means moving beyond research and early implementations to make CHERI easy and low-risk to adopt. That was the idea behind creating the CHERI Alliance, and it remains at the heart of our vision today.
I see the Alliance as a platform for collaboration, where knowledge and experience accumulate and where we connect:
- our members
- sister organisations like the CHERI Research Center and the Capable Hub
- initiatives such as the CHERI managed deployment, led by PA Consulting
- and other collaborations across the CHERI ecosystem
We are building an ecosystem where every successful implementation makes the next one easier, accelerating adoption and building confidence in CHERI.
My ambition is simple: for CHERI to become a natural choice for the next generation of secure computing systems.
The ecosystem is growing, CHERI is moving into real products, and momentum is building. For me, that makes this an incredibly exciting time for CHERI and the Alliance.
